Crystal Palace players have every reason to be angry with themselves after 96 minutes of play with Liverpool at Selhurst Park.

After an impressive 1-0 lead over Liverpool early in the second half, the tide turned against them when substitute Christian Benteke Liolo won and scored a controversial last second penalty to give 10-man Liverpool victory.

Earlier, Roberto Firmino had, in the 72nd minute, given Liverpool the equaliser which kept the nerves of Crystal Palace players uptight down the lane.

The curtain seemed to have been drawn on Liverpool when defender James Milner was sent off seventeen minutes into the second half.

One goal down, one man down!

However, Roberto Firmino turned the game around with a 72nd minute strike that cast a ray of hope on the Liverpool boys.

The duo continued trading tackles as the clock winds down until five minutes into injury time.

That all happened so quickly that one can’t qiuite describe the penalty decision.

There are approximately 100 per cent of Palace fans who will think it was a dive from Benteke.

It’s hard to be absolutely certain.

Delaney slid in – a silly decision because Benteke was going nowhere – or may have brushed Benteke’s left foot with his knee or thigh.

Referee Andre Marriner didn’t have a great view, but after consulting with the assistant referee he gave it.

At first it all looked like a dive, but the second replay suggested he may have clipped him.

It was a great penalty from Benteke. He strolled up, dummied to shoot, and then as McCarthy went down he passed it gently into the other side of the net.

Benteke scores with the last kick of the game!
