BARCELONA Vs REAL MADRID: In a match totally dominated by Barcelona till late in the match, Real Madrid had the last laugh! In the 62nd minute, Gerard Pique headed home the 1st goal to put hosts ahead. Ivan Rakitic’s corner was met powerfully by Pique, whose downward header went inside the near post with no chance to Real’s goalkeeper, Keylor Navas.
But on 62nd minute, Karim Benzema’s bicycle kick levelled the scores, while on 85th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo stunned the passionate home crowd in the Nou Camp with a goal that reminds all of us that the stars of Camp Nou are also humans.
It was a match full of all the ingredients of ‘El Clasico, but the biggest disappointment for the home fans was Ramos’ foul on Lionel Messi ten minutes into the match, which went unpunished by referee Hernandez Hernandez. Messi was heading for a goal but was mechanically stopped by the Real Madrid captain. Under normal
circumstances, such foul should have resulted into a dismissal and a penalty, but Referee Hernandez Hernandez waved play on. The replays showed it was a penalty for Barca, or at the very least a scorable free kick at the edge of the box.
Not content with Referee’s leniency and oversight, Ramos keeps testing the officials’ patience, with elbow on the face of Dani Alves, series of reckless tackles, which all evaded referee’s punishment.
Eventually, though, he went too far, crashing with Luis Suarez, got a second yellow card, and dismissed. This has been coming for ages and he should probably have had about five yellow cards in this match.
Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal also committed two yellow-card offences, but thanks to the 33 years old Referee, he was safe.
In all, Real Madrid didn’t do much, but their sensible counter-attack tactics paid offer and gave them the day. Throughout the match, it was clear that Real Madrid’s plan and biggest threat was when they are on the counter, with Gareth bale’s pace and power causing lots of troubles to Barca’s defence, especially, against Jordi Alba.
Real Madrid came to Barcelona with a plan – rigid defence with quick counter attack. And on a night the referee made so many mistakes, it worked! Congratulations to Real Madrid!
Barcelona still enjoy a six point lead over title rivals Atletico Madrid but this is a huge win for Zinedine Zidane and his ‘’galaticos’’!
