BLAKE GRIFFFIN TRADED TO THE DETROIT PISTONS-

By Michael D Kilgore Sr.

The biggest trade of the season between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Detroit Pistons took place the last week of January. Detroit Sends Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley and also Boban Marjanovic. Along with a 1st and 2nd round draft pick to the Clips. In Return The Pistons receive Blake Griffin, Willie Reed and Brice Johnson.                                                        So Detroit needed to make a splash having a hot start then after slowing down in Motown. They do so picking up Griffin, a proven superstar and an all star calibre player. Was it worth it? Tough call! Detroit ranked in the top 5 in 3 point percentage now finds themselves with very few shooters. Today, NBA is a shooters game, Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy now is changing the direction on the floor with the lost of Bradley and Harris to a post up game down low. A lot of teams could get  lost defensively with two dominate ‘’bigs’’ down low, for this will give the team a down low bump and thump style of play.                                       Griffin and Drummond can help Detroit dominate in the East if Griffin stays healthy. Yes, Griffin also is a injury risk despite being only 28yrs old, along with an exploding contract worth $171,174,820 over 5 years. The 2021-22 season Griffin will top out his annual salary at 38,957,028 (player option) putting Detroit in a scary financial situation that season.

Detroit had a chance here to pick up a superstar and one of the top 15 guys in the league and took it. Plain and simple. As it shook up the NBA community, everyone was caught off guard on this deal, even Griffin himself finding out through Twitter and Social media was shocked. Former Piston and Clipper also a one time teammate of Griffin, Chauncey Billups said he is really happy for the Pistons franchise. As surprising as this was he thinks being downtown in the new arena with Drummond and Griffin together is a great thing for the city. Former NBA player Jalen Rose a Detroiter himself thinks fans should be very happy and the move could even attract future marquee free agents with Griffin locked into a 4-5 year deal. Myself personally… Yes, am excited as a Pistons fan.
